Vivant plants 5,000 seedlings inside protected area

Vivant Corporation employees and their families planted on Sept. 22 some 5,000 seedlings of fruit-bearing and native tree species in Barangay Sudlon 1, Cebu City, which is part of a key biodiversity area.

More than 100 Vivant employees and their families joined the tree planting, an event organized annually by Vivant in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).

“We’ve been planting trees every year since 2009 to fulfill our responsibility of protecting the environment.  I am glad that more and more people in the group are sharing this responsibility,” Vivant Corporation chief executive officer Arlo Sarmiento said.

Vivant and PBSP chose a plant site within the Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL), an area that is considered a conservation priority because it serves as a habitat for many endemic plant and animal species, as well as a water resource for Metro Cebu.

To ensure the survival of the tree seedlings, Vivant and PBSP have partnered with the Sayaw Farmers’ Association for the care of the plant site.

JEG Development Corporation also joined the tree planting.
