On January 26, 2018, VFI officially launched its new project, Project Liadlaw.
When we first set up the foundation, The Department of Education asked if we would look into electrifying off-grid schools. When the Vivant Corporation partnered with ET, a Chinese manufacturer of top-rated solar panels, to form ET-Vivant, we saw an opportunity to fulfill this request.
Later this year, VFI will be electrifying Hilotongan Integrated School in the municipality of Bantayan with ET-Vivant solar panels. This donation will ensure the school runs at full capacity, including 100 computers in 2 labs.
While we are proud of the solar electrification, we are certainly not the first to do this. What makes our project unique is the second part. Other solar donations often see the equipment fall into disrepair since education in solar technology wasn’t provided to the local population. The second aspect of our project changes that.
We identified Bantayan National School as our first recipient in teacher training and equipment donation for the country’s first TechVoc course in Electronic Installation and Maintenance with Solar. Because the course is completely new, ET and Vivant’s engineers worked with DepEd and TESDA to create a new curriculum incorporating solar technology modules into their existing EIM curriculum.
The EIM students at Bantayan National High School will be the first in what will hopefully be a national program graduating electricians who are ready for our ever-changing future. In exchange, they will regularly visit their neighbors in Hilotongan Integrated School to maintain and repair their solar panels.
